Water/wastewater treatment, pump & lift-station contractor insurance

Treatment plant, pump and lift-station contractors work inside live systems. A failed bypass during a lift-station rehab can cause an overflow within minutes, and the equipment you install is expensive long before the owner accepts it.

Our approach

We place lift station contractor insurance and pump contractor insurance that covers bypass pumping failures, confined space exposure, and the equipment and materials you are responsible for until the project is accepted.

Exposures we plan around

  • Bypass pumping failures and sewage overflows
  • Confined space and hydrogen sulfide exposure
  • Installation and commissioning errors
  • Damage to existing plant equipment
  • Pumps, controls and panels in transit or awaiting install

Frequently asked questions

Does my policy cover a bypass pumping failure?

The resulting overflow is typically a pollution claim, which general liability excludes. Contractors pollution liability covers cleanup and third-party claims from bypass failures.

What is an installation floater?

It covers equipment and materials you are installing, from delivery until the owner accepts the work. It fills the gap when the owner's builder's risk does not apply.

Do you also insure pump service companies that don't build?

Yes. Service-only firms have a different mix of exposures, mainly professional errors and completed operations, and we can build a program around that.
